Launching Premium Tier Benefits in an effort to monetize the platform, Telegram
In an effort to monetize some of its user bases, the popular messaging network Telegram has announced the launch of a new tier of services. According to CEO Pavlo Durov, the new level satisfies the need for increased storage and bandwidth from more than 700 million active monthly users. The debut of advanced tiers of Telegram’s service, one of the most well-liked messaging applications for cryptocurrencies, has been announced. These levels will allow users access to new capabilities and enhance some of the ones they now have. The action is being taken as the business aims to make money from a substantial chunk of its user base, which just surpassed 700 million monthly active users. The advanced level, according to CEO Pavlo Durov, is a reaction to people’ wants and demands.
New features available for paid users include an increase in the number of channels they can follow – 1,000 channels, compared to the 500 offered by the free level – and the creation of 20 chat folders with 200 chats per folder. The price of this new category of services has not yet been revealed, but according to Techcrunch, estimates are close to the $ 6 mark. However, the biggest attempt at monetization was Telegram’s own token called Gram. The investment has managed to attract more than $ 1 billion from investors from around the world, but ultimately from the United States. The company was shut down by the SEC and a temporary injunction was issued against it in 2019. This led to Telegram withdrawing the token launch, returning money to investors and fining the company.
