T-Mobile Again Facing Lawsuit Due to Sim Swap Attack

June 14, 2021

A new cryptocurrency fraud goes for tech-savvy people.

Cell phone carrier T-Mobile is gazing intently at a lawsuit over charges it neglected to defend against a SIM trade attack that cost one client $55,000 in lost bitcoin (BTC).

Offended party Richard Harris is charging T-Mobile’s wrongdoing including its inability to sufficiently ensure client data, enlist suitable support staff, and its infringement of government and state laws prompted his deficiency of 1.63 bitcoin.

Harris is demanding a preliminary by jury, as per a court archive recorded last week in the U.S. Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Harris contends T-Mobile abused the country’s Federal Communications Act, which specifies that the phone transporter should ensure the confidential restrictive data of its clients and client exclusive organization data.

It is not the first run through the major U.S cell phone carrier that has confronted suit over its supposed break in its obligation of care over client information and loss of bitcoin. Recently, T-Mobile was sued over a SIM-swap assault that brought about the deficiency of more than $450,000 in bitcoin.

A SIM swap is a kind of scam including the acquisition of another prepaid SIM card. An agitator contacts an organization delegate, for this situation, T-Mobile, persuades the rep they are their casualty’s personality and requests that the rep port the casualty’s old number to another prepaid SIM.

From that point, the entertainer would then be able to access ledgers, crypto trade wallets, and all the more just by having an entrance code sent as an instant message to the prepaid SIM. Various occasions of misusing of client account data have happened at T-Mobile, the grievance by Harris claims. In that capacity, the offended party is looking for compensation for various harms including treble, actual, statutory, and reformatory just as attorney charges and prejudgment interest.
