With its newest litigation against Binance, the US Securities and Exchange Commission has officially designated 61 cryptocurrencies as securities. As a result, it has affected $100 billion in market tokens. The overall number of cryptocurrencies accused by US officials of being “securities” has been estimated to be 61, with a few more added to the list as a result of the Binance case.
However, the figure of 61 cryptocurrencies classified as securities stems from many lawsuits filed by the SEC throughout the years explaining some cryptocurrencies classified as securities. During the recent Binance case, the SEC classified ten cryptocurrencies as BNB and COTI securities.
