On May 30, Japan’s largest airline named All Nippon Airways (ANA) launched an aeronautical –themed Non–Fungible Tokens (NFTs) marketplace along with ANA Neo, its subsidiary. The introduction of this platform is seen as a part of All Nippon Airways’ ongoing expansion at the intersection of airlines and Web 3.0
Dubbed, “ANA GranWhale NFT Marketplace” this platform will feature an inaugural collection that would be created by aerial photographer Luke Ozawa. The photographer’s first digital photo will be converted to NFT. One of these photos is planned to be sold with a positive film along with the source of photo development at the auction and would be priced at 100,000 yen.
Furthermore, the second collection of these NFTs will release on June 7 representing the NFT image conversion of the first Boeing 787 that was operated by ANA. As the largest airline in Japan with revenue of $12.2 Billion in the last fiscal year, this firm plans to expand its NFT product line in the future while improving the customer experience through NFT commercialization.
The development of ANA Neo’s GranWhale started in August 2022 as the virtual travel platform that used VR technology for recreating various destinations and cultures in the form of metaverse parks. ANA Neo president Mitsuo Tomita further added that around in the logo represents the virtual and real environment. The fusion symbolizes the ANA GranWhale flying straight toward the future with immense stability and growth to make Web 3.0 and Metaverse travel more commonplace.
